Salsa ou Meringue?

I've been taking french lessons to further enhance my employability here in the Eastern Townships. I was going to go for 30 hours a week, to completely immerse myself in the language. However, upon speaking with my new employer the government (AKA Employment Insurance - EI), they informed me that even though my lack of french is a hinderance to getting a job, I can't do everything possible to learn the language because that jeopardizes my eligibility for getting any money from them!! Incroyable, hein?! So I'm just going for 9 hours a week. Which, as it turns out, is PLENTY. They've actually started me in the Intermediate 1 class. Tres difficile. But I'm trying.

And I'm getting hit on all the time! Well, maybe not all the time. But certainly more than I was hit on in Toronto. Dave and I joke that I need to find myself a french lover to teach me (how to speak, not how to love!). But the two instances so far where I've been the object of some admirations have not been exactly dreamy. And of course, I am not even 100% sure that what these men are saying (one is here from Columbia, no idea where the other is from) is truly a come on. I think my red hair is what's doing it for them. "G" loves to shop for women at the mall and his first question to me was whether or not I was married. "A" wanted me to be his salsa partner. He needs to fix his teeth first. (oh, did I say that out loud?)

One last vent. I do love being here in North Hatley. However, as I flip through the latest issue of LouLou (Canada's Shopping Magazine), I realize that I really don't need to go out and buy any sexy tops or trendy purses for the season. For at the parties we attend, I am usually one of the youngest, hippest women there, even if I'm only dressed in Reitmans jeans and a Gap top. And that makes me sad. Maybe subscribing to LouLou wasn't such a smart idea. I love to have cool stuff. I half-heartedly joked with Dave that all my stuff is now new since nobody here as seen all my clothes. He took it full-heartedly and reminds me of that statement all the time. But it's still boring to me. I may need to call VISA, extend the limit and hit the shops pretty darn soon. Or maybe take dance lessons ....
